Constó de tres batallas: la batalla de Marnadal y la masacre de Cintra, la Primera Batalla del Sodden y la Segunda Batalla del Sodden, donde Nilfgaard fue detenida por la alianza de Temeria, Redania, Kaedwen y Aedirn, quedando el río Yaruga como frontera de las nuevas conquistas del imperio. Emhyr atacó Cintra para capturar a Ciri, con quien quería casarse por culpa de la profecía, y también para demostrar ante sus vasallos que él era un emperador fuerte. La posterior invasión a gran escala no era su verdadera intención, sino que se vio empujado a hacerlo. Los aliados del norte se encontraban bajo el mando del rey Vizimir de Redania y el mago Vilgefortz. Murieron catorce hechiceros, aunque en realidad fueron trece, porque Triss Merigold sobrevivió. También sobrevivió Yennefer.
